Federal judge blocks Illinois assault weapons ban
EAST ST. LOUIS, Illinois — An Illinois District Court Judge in East St. Louis blocked the state’s new “assault weapons” ban. The decision came after Illinois successfully petitioned the court to combine four different lawsuits challenging the new law into a single case. The state claimed since the cases were all arguing against the ban, it would save the state money in litigation fees.

With Nebraska Gov. Jim Pillen signing the state’s Constitutional Carry bill into law this coming Tuesday, twenty-seven states will have Constitutional Carry laws, representing 65% of the land in the country and 44% of the population in 2022. If South Carolina passes Constitutional Carry, 67% of the land in the country and 45% of the population will be covered.

HB 543 goes into effect on July 1, 2023, making Florida the 26th state to enact Constitutional Carry legislation.

Preliminary injunction issued regarding handgun roster
U.S. District Court judge Cormac J. Carney has issued a preliminary injunction against continuing enforcement of the California handgun roster, ruling that the roster is unconstitutional. The court grants Preliminary Injunctions when the trial judge is satisfied that the plaintiff will prevail after the trial. Kudos to the California Rifle and Pistol Association (CRPA) for filing the suit … and for prevailing.
